The programme goal is to contribute to the reduction of extreme poverty and hunger in Lao PDR.
Development objectives are to ensure sustainable food and nutrition security and income of households in the target area.
FNML promotes a dual approach that aims at tapping the agro- ecological potential to target markets that can earn sustainable income, while at the same time improving food and nutrition security.
FNML will target five districts over three Southern provinces:Phouvong and Xansay (Attapeu), Dakcheung Xekong) and Ta'Oy and Samuay (Salavanh). The main target group will consist of the population of 175 target villages combining poverty with production and market potential.
FNML will contribute to all three strategic objectives of IFAD's Country Strategic Opportunities Programme (COSOP), i.e.
(i) improved community-based access to, and management of, land and natural resources;
(ii) improved access to advisory services and inputs for sustainable, adaptive and integrated farming sys tems; and
(iii) improved accessto markets for selected produces.
The programme will target a total of 10,500 households, or 63,000 direct beneficiaries. It is assumed that each household will benefit from one key product, one niche product and nutrition activities (i.e. home gardening and others).Additionally, 40% of the targeted households will benefit from access to clean water.It is expected that farm net incomes, excluding the value of family labour, will increase from LAK 1,893,580 to LAK 5,403,740 at full development stage.
